Story
I’m hoping to make a difference by fundraising for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC).
I’m doing this by hosting a Feast for Freedom to provide people seeking asylum with access to the essential services they need to rebuild their lives in Australia.
This is a meal that makes a difference and I’m inspired by the special recipes provided by refugees that are taken from their own cultural traditions. Every dollar I raise will go to the ASRC so they can provide essential food, housing and health services to refugees and people seeking asylum.
This year we will be enjoying recipes supplied by Nige, a Tamil Sri Lankan who fled his home country in 2009. He was held in indefinite Australian immigration detention for 6 years. Missing his familiar foods, from detention he phoned his wife and mother in Sri Lanka who were able to talk him through their recipes and cooking methods. He has now become an excellent cook. Today, Nige continues to share the flavours he once cooked in secret, in a place where he felt forgotten.
Please make a donation to help me reach this goal.
Thank you.
