Birthday Bashir

Invitation

Friends! I've decided to have birthday bash this year, or to be more specific, a birthday bashir. This is a multicultural concept I've just invented, loosely related to the fact that the Arabic word "bashir" means "bringer of good tidings" - we could all do with some of those.

Instead of buying me a birthday prezzie, I encourage you to make a donation to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) and help provide people seeking asylum with access to the essential services they need to rebuild their lives in Australia. Every dollar you contribute will go to the ASRC so they can provide essential food, housing and health services to refugees and people seeking asylum.

This will be a bash that makes a difference, and you can expect to be blown away (not literally) by recipes shared by refugees, from their own cultural traditions, to support the ASRC's fundraiser Feast for Freedom (aka Birthday Bash).

As my birthday is conveniently timed not long before the end of the financial year, it may be relevant to point out that donations $2 and more are tax-deductible.

If you'd like to help prepare some food for the event, let me know and we'll talk recipes. Otherwise, just come and feast!
