Feast & Froth for Freedom

We are hosting a “Feast for Freedom” lunch event at the Lake Tyers Beach Hall on Sunday 17th May, 12 noon till 4pm.  We want to support every person to have “a seat at the table” and we hope you will join us.

Healthy communities are those where members care for family, friends, strangers and the environment we all share. It's about empathy and walking a mile in someone else's shoes.

Come along and make connections with other local people with a shared interest in advocacy for some of the most vulnerable people living in our country. We are raising funds for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre as it continues to support 8500 people annually with food, shelter and health services.

The story of people seeking refuge and asylum in another country often centres around the grave peril of the journey and the arrival on new shores. The challenges that come afterward—such as limited access to housing, jobs, healthcare, and education—these barriers to freedom are rarely discussed.

Finding kinship and connection in community happens when people hear each other’s stories and come together with empathy and compassion to support everyone. We all have personal experiences that highlight the importance of freedom.

FROTH! Our lunchtime feast will include a Froth for Freedom - a curated ‘live’ story telling event centred around different experiences of freedom.

FEAST! If you are able, please bring along a dish to share – this will be a “potluck dinner” style affair. We encourage you to bring a dish that either represents your own culture or try one of the recipes from the ASRC cookbook. Dishes can be sweet or savoury and will be shared on an open table. In order to safely accommodate people with allergies, please include a list of ingredients with your dish.

RAFFLE! Following on with the “potluck” theme… we ask, if you are able, to bring along a wrapped item to contribute to the raffle. The item should be something beautiful or useful (can be handmade, thrifted, recycled, repurposed etc). Please wrap the items in simple brown paper or similar and place on the raffle table when you arrive. Each contribution will receive a raffle ticket. Tickets will also be available for sale. Following the raffle, here will be an opportunity to swap your potluck prizes with those around you.
