Why we're hosting a Feast for Freedom

Imagine your home, your community and your safety threatened- not because of any choice you made, but because the world around you changed beyond your control.

As of mid-2025, over 117 million people have been forced to leave everything behind due to persecution, conflict, or violence, including 42.5 million refugees and 8.4 million asylum seekers seeking safety (UNHCR).

These crises may seem distant, but their impact is felt here at home. Recently, we’ve seen moments where fear and division threatened to overshadow the compassion our communities need most.

We’re hosting a Feast for Freedom to raise vital funds for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC), so they can continue providing essential food, housing, legal, and health services for people seeking asylum in Australia.

Every culture belongs at the table. By building a longer table rather than a higher wall, we create a community where difference is celebrated, and everyone is welcome.

At our Feast, we’ll prepare cherished family recipes generously shared by refugees, each dish a story of resilience, heritage, and hope. Food is a universal language, and through these recipes, we celebrate the richness refugee communities bring to Australia, making our cities more vibrant and connected.

Our fundraising goal is $3,000. While our dinner seats are limited, your support, through donations or sharing our cause, reaches far beyond our table. Every contribution helps ASRC continue their vital work, supporting people seeking safety and a new beginning.
