Tasmanian Feast - food , kindness , community

Share my page

As a tribute to Dad who loved through food and celebrated all cultures , and to actively combat the turning away from kindness and compassion we are seeing in the world , I'm making a difference fundraising for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC).

I’m doing this by hosting a Feast for Freedom to provide people seeking asylum with access to the essential services they need to rebuild their lives in Australia.

This is a meal that makes a difference and I’m inspired by the special recipes gifted by refugees that are taken from their own cultural traditions. Every dollar I raise will go to the ASRC so they can provide essential food, housing and health services to refugees and people seeking asylum.

Please make a donation to help me reach this goal.

Thank you.

Why I'm supporting this cause for refugees

Sunday 15th Feb
Sunny and I have been aware and donated to the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre for a while now, we love Kon the ceo and his passion for kindness and generosity to those needing some help. It's inspirational!
Suggest go get a copy of his Greek cookbook btw. It's quite amazing.

At this time in the world we are experiencing a rise in racism and nationalism to the exclusion of other cultures.  Trumps America has empowered racist voices around the world. We have our own versions in australia and barking xenophobics are emboldened. So I want to actively create some welcoming energy for people wanting and needing to come to australia for safety and a better life. Most people in australia would not appreciate the experiences of a refugee family lacking  food , safety and housing security. Many aussies are doing it tough these days but at least have the welfare system. Refugees do not have these safety nets as we do.
Not to mention we have so much space and resources here to share. Why would we not? It makes no sense.
Cooking and sharing food is probably the best way I can think to create community and some good vibes. This is a wonderful and smart initiative from ASRC and I'm thrilled to be part of it. I personally love being part of a multicultural society, it's richer and more colourful. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts!

Dad passed away last year and I'm doing this drive with his spirit in mind . He introduced me to music and food from around the world.  He was a passionate anti trump , anti racist and advocated for diversity and kindness.
He would have loved being part of this movement.

So thanks to Dad and thanks to everyone supporting the cause with time and donations. This is a good thing to do for yourselves as well don't forget. Tell me you don't feel better after donating !
Life can be tough so we just try to be kind, be generous and suggest to go cook something delicious today . Peace x
