Lia’s Feast For Freedom 2025
Let’s feast!
It’s that time of year again - to celebrate what unites us with a dinner to raise money for an organisation I respect, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC).
Sunday 25th May
Bellagio Cafe Waverley (thanks once again to Alexa)
6.00pm - 9.00pm
I know it’s been a big year for everyone with the rising cost of living, and many challenging and tragic events unfolding in the world. If even those of us with immense privilege are struggling, the most vulnerable people in our communities including those seeking asylum are relying more than ever on the support of organisations like the ASRC.
This year I thought we could do things a bit differently and allow you to choose to donate money OR bring a dish - this will help a lot with catering! I will be providing as many dishes as I can assemble and refrigerate in my tiny kitchen, but if you are able to bring something to add to the table then this will be greatly appreciated. Our 2023 and 2024 Feast for Freedom each raised over $1500, but even if we raise a fraction of that it will go a long way to helping those in need.
If you want to bring a dish: I’d love to highlight our diverse backgrounds and encourage you to bring a dish from your own culture or family to share. If this sounds difficult (hello Aussies from Barnawartha) then just bring your favourite! I have some ideas and incredible recipes gifted by refugees that I can share, and if you would still like to make a small donation to the page then this will all go to a great cause. No amount is too little to make a difference.
If you’d prefer to donate: If you don’t have the time to prepare a dish, great! We need some donors and eaters too! If you are unsure of how much to contribute then a good guide is how much you would pay for your groceries for dinner, or a meal out.
Please reach out to me if you’d like to attend and donate on the link above.
If you can’t make it then you will be missed but you can still support the ASRC with a tax-deductible donation.
Just $25 can provide warm community meals in a welcoming environment, $63 can fund healthcare or vital medications for those without access to Medicare, $88 can provide crisis accommodation for a family at risk of homelessness or $125 can provide a family with culturally familiar food and essential groceries.
Thank you thank you thank you!
