Dear friends and family, 

I’m making a difference fundraising for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC).

I’m doing this by hosting a Feast for Freedom to provide people seeking asylum with access to the essential services they need to rebuild their lives in Australia.

This is a meal that makes a difference and I’m inspired by the special recipes gifted by refugees that are taken from their own cultural traditions. Every dollar I raise will go to the ASRC so they can provide essential food, housing and health services to refugees and people seeking asylum.

As a nurse I have been privileged to meet many families from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds. I have been saddened, humbled and also inspired by these interactions and their stories.  I am passionate about supporting the ASRC.

Lean on Me - Bill Withers

Hi there, 
The words in the song ring clear and true; "we all need somebody to lean on". 
Each one of us experiences times when things are not going right and pressure builds up. In reality, most of us are safe and can access numerous services, often free, to help. We are free to talk to anyone we like and raise our voices without being persecuted. The safety we sometimes take for granted, is not afforded to people seeking Asylum or refugees. 
I, personally feel very lucky to live the life I do and in Australia. I often think of how difficult it is in general for migrants who make an active choice to move countries. That being said, how hard would you think it is for those having to quickly leave their homes, countries and sometimes their families? 

A little kindness can go a long way. 
"Lean on me when you're not strong,
And I'll be your friend, 
I'll help you carry on".......

Many Rivers to Cross - Jimmy Cliff

Hi all, 

Although JImmy Cliff was not an asylum seeker or refugee, his story as an immigrant from Jamaica to England is a similar one. 
According to the UNHCR, we have almost 60,000 refugees and 80,000 asylum seekers in Australia. 

Imagine for a  moment that you felt unsafe to the point of needing to leave everything behind, your home, possibly some family, your friends, your culture, your community, your country. Imagine having no plan or idea of where you are going to, how long it will take you and not knowing if you will be safe. In our lives, we are so fortunate to have so much choice and freedoms. All of which we often take for granted. 

At the end of day, we are all human beings, often just hoping and aspiring for the same things in life. 

Thank you for taking a moment to consider what it may be like in someone else's shoes.
