Story

I’m making a difference fundraising for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC).

I’m doing this by hosting a Feast for Freedom to provide people seeking asylum with access to the essential services they need to rebuild their lives in Australia.

This is a meal that makes a difference and I’m inspired by the special recipes gifted by refugees that are taken from their own cultural traditions. Every dollar I raise will go to the ASRC so they can provide essential food, housing and health services to refugees and people seeking asylum.

Please make a donation to help me reach this goal.

Thank you.

My First Contact with Asylum Seekers

Saturday 22nd Feb
My first contact with Asylum Seekers was over 30 years ago whilst living in a small town in Far North Queensland. A couple of Hmong families moved to the area with their children attending the same small school as our children. They were such hard working, gentle people and keen to be part of their new community, happy to talk at the school about their culture, family groups and their food.
Their willingness to share with their knew community was overwhelming and a great opportunity for our children,
Thinking of this experience makes me believe even more firmly that we should understand that Asylum Seekers, from all over the globe, enrich our lives and community. All they ask is acceptance and understanding.

Feasting 2025 Style

Thursday 20th Feb
Two years ago we hosted a feast sharing some amazing food cooked using recipes generously donated by Asylum seekers. It was such a great experience we have decided to feast again this year.
The menu yet to be decided but cuisines are from countries from across the globe. It could be Indian, or Columbian, perhaps Bangladeshi or maybe even Greek and closer to home Papua New Guinea.
Whatever we eat I am sure the evening will be a lot of fun.

Thank you to my Donors
